Project HUNGIT: Harnessing Unity, Nutrition, Growth, and Inclusive Teaching

Project HUNGIT by JCI Cebu tackled malnutrition among children in Brgy. Garing through an innovative, sustainable, and community-driven approach. Over five weeks, 58 undernourished children received structured feeding sessions while 28 parents were trained on hygiene, safe food preparation, and nutrition using affordable, local ingredients. The program empowered 20+ families to establish home gardens, reducing long-term dependency on food aid. With the active involvement of over 90 community volunteers, barangay officials, and health workers, HUNGIT revived the spirit of Bayanihan and achieved measurable health improvements for 85% of the children. Supported by corporate sponsors, the project also fostered leadership among JCI Cebu members while promoting SDGs 2, 3, and 17. Its replicable and culturally appropriate model illustrates how youth-led initiatives can create sustainable, positive change aligned with the JCI Mission and Vision.
