JCI Cebu, Inc. recently held its first “ProjectLab,” an initiative designed to launch community projects using a Design Thinking approach. This human-centered methodology emphasizes understanding user needs, challenging existing assumptions, and redefining problems to foster true innovative solutions.
The event, led by Nel Luceno, the 2025 Vice President for Community Development, introduced JCI Cebu’s new project categories for 2025: Cornerstone Projects, Immersion Projects, and Highlight Projects. Cornerstone Projects are JCI Cebu’s flagship programs, strategically planned for long-term impact. Immersion Projects develop organically through community interaction, allowing members to directly address local issues. Highlight Projects showcase unique initiatives that present special opportunities.
Luceno also highlighted JCI Cebu’s key advocacy areas for 2025, which include Environment, Arts & Culture, Technology, Inclusivity, and Education. Each project is expected to align with these priorities.
At the end of the ProjectLab, participants presented four project proposals to a panel of experienced evaluators. The panel included Jeff Ombe, the 2025 JCI Cebu President; Maria Escabarte, the 2024 Boholana Kisses President; and Daryll Carillo, the 2023 Vice President for Linkages. Each evaluator provided valuable insights and constructive feedback, guiding participants in refining and enhancing their project concepts.
ProjectLab represents a significant advancement for JCI Cebu, empowering members to develop impactful and sustainable projects that address the evolving needs of the community. With a solid foundation in Design Thinking, JCI Cebu continues to innovate in its service to humanity.
