e-SKWELA: Bridging Islands With Education
To bridge the digital and educational divide in remote island communities, “e-Skwela” provides access to books and digital learning tools, promotes reading literacy, and a love for reading among young learners through cross cultural collaboration between JCI Cebu and JCI Sangju (South Korea).
The project aims to address the root causes of poor reading literacy and comprehension and break these barriers to help the children Read, Retain, and Rise through its five-point action plan “L.E.A.R.N.” Strategy:
- L – Lay the Foundation in Early Years through early intervention at home,
- E – Equip Teachers and Children by providing reading materials and digital learning tools,
- A – Assess Early, Assess Often through diagnostic reading tests,
- R – Reinforce Reading Culture among students and empower the teachers to create empowered students,
- N – Nurture Partnerships for Literacy through shared responsibility among parents, schools, government, and private sectors.
