Tawsan for Thousand: The NEW Community-Powered Recreational Tourism Destination
Tawsan, named after “Tawo sa Hunasan”, celebrates the lives between land and sea by transforming Danao City’s mangrove forest into a model of sustainable tourism.
JCI Cebu rebuilt eco-recreation access with a ₱108,000 (~$1,964) safe stairway, increasing weekly visitors by 189% from 54 to 156 and creating jobs for 5 new guides. With 156 volunteers, the project supported the 100,000 mangroves movement, cleaned trails, and educated 152 individuals through Know Your Mangroves. Social media campaigns and the Bb. Dayung 2025 pageant reached 14,500 people. Coordinated across all 6 JCI Cebu Developmental Teams, it delivered measurable impact by empowering 32 guides, benefiting 25 households, and supporting 55 families. This eco-friendly tourism initiative proves that sustainable tourism can drive livelihoods, protect nature, and honor heritage. True to JCI RISE, it rebuilds, invests, sustains, and evolves to showcase enterprising leadership that serves humanity and inspires global change.
