JCI Cebu celebrated another milestone for Project BERDE by officially turning over its third hydroponics greenhouse of 2026 to Asilo dela Milagrosa Orphanage on May 26, 2026. Now in its third year, the initiative continues to promote sustainable agriculture while empowering communities through practical learning and environmental stewardship. The project was made possible through the generous support of its principal sponsor, Smartsourcing.

Beyond constructing the greenhouse, Project BERDE focuses on developing skills that create lasting impact. Project Chairperson Jay Emanuel Alegarbes personally facilitated technical training on hydroponic farming, equipping the children and caretakers with the knowledge needed to operate and maintain the facility. The orphanage’s children will take an active role in managing the greenhouse, gaining valuable experience in urban farming, responsibility, and leadership.

JCI Cebu will continue monitoring the project’s progress through harvest, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability, food security, and youth empowerment through innovative community development initiatives.
